Who We Are

We’ve been serving in Japan since April of 2003. God has blessed us with three amazing children, Tyler, Brianah, and Asher.

Steve speaks Japanese very fluently, thanks to his parents, Dave and Glenda Carter, who came to Japan when he was less than a year old. Growing up in Japan has allowed him to grasp the subtle nuances that are ingrained into the culture that many missionaries have a difficulty grasping. That being said, he fully understands that this advantage is meaningless without the working of God in his life, as well as the lives of those to whom he ministers.

Bethany grew up as an only child in a Christian home in Kentucky, and has completely immersed herself into Japan. She was able to grasp the Japanese language, one of the most difficult languages in the world, and now speaks fluently, being able to teach in different ministries, as well as building relationships with the Japanese in our church and in our neighborhood.

All three children LOVE where God has called us. It’s definitely, in the truest sense of the word, “home.” Our oldest two have returned to the U.S. for work, and our third is living fully immersed as a “Japanese.” We are truly thankful that God has given us children who have a heart for those around them, a burden to see people trust Christ, and a desire to serve him where they are now, not just in the future.
